Interview Process
The interview process at FTI Consulting will generally be conducted over two rounds; however some offices may require candidates to go through a third round. The first round is usually conducted on campus, followed by visits to the local office. During first rounds, you should expect to meet a representative at either the Director or Managing Director level from the area of the business in which you are interviewing for either 30 or 45 minutes. The next round will take place in the local offices, and you should expect to meet representatives from all levels of the segment. Each interview will likely include a portion of time dedicated to a general discussion as well as a business analysis portion to better assess your level of experience. The last five to ten minutes are usually reserved for any questions you may have.
Some business segments may require a case discussion which is usually modeled after a real business situation. This portion of the interview is an opportunity for you to show us how you structure your thoughts when asked to solve a complex business problem.
Here are some tips to help to succeed in an interview:
- Listen carefully; ask questions if there are any points you do not understand.
- If you are asked a more detailed question, summarize the question back to the interviewer in your own words to be sure you understand what is being asked.
- Take some time to think for a minute; don't be afraid of the silence!
- Structure your response so that you are able to thoroughly and articulately answer the question, while remaining focused on the topic. Use relevant examples to accompany your response.
- Try to be aware of time, making sure you don’t spend too much time responding to one question, unless the interviewer is engaging you further on the topic
- Be confident and try to have fun!It helps to think of an interview as a discussion.
- Buddy up with a peer or friend, and practice describing your experience. Make sure you have something to say about everything and anything on your resume!
- You can get sample cases to practice with from the consulting club at your school.
